Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis Treatment
It usually starts in early childhood, especially when there is a family history of atopy, asthma, hay fever, conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis or food allergies. The skin fails to hold in moisture, becomes dry, then inflamed, itchy and often infected. Infected eczema can be easily confused with acne and frequently patients mistakenly receive acne treatments leading to worsening of the eczema. Psoriasis and psoriasis treatment are often confused with eczema and will be covered elsewhere. There is currently no cure for eczema though research continues to shed new light on the condition. However, there are many ways to minimize the discomfort and distress which eczema can bring, the foundation of which is an effective skin care routine for eczema treatment. Effective eczema treatments range from over the counter remedies to prescriptions from your
doctor and more.
Effective eczema treatments range from over the
counter
A wide range of eczema treatments are available, from over the counter remedies to prescriptions from a doctor. In addition, there are ways of minimizing environmental allergens commonly found in the home. Allergy treatments are infrequently beneficial. Many complementary therapies are also available. Localized patches of extremely itchy eczema, such as lichen simple chronicus can be treated with the Xtrac, narrow band UVB excimer laser. Whole body excema or atopic dermatitis may respond to a light box that emits narrow band UVB in conjunction with UVA.
