Rosacea & Facial Spider Veins

Rosacea is a common disorder of the facial skin that affects million
of Americans. It has
a combination of four manifestations; 1) spider veins, broken
capillaries or blood vessels on the face. 2)  acne like pimples or
bumps on the cheeks, chin and forehead. 3) flushing of the face. 4)
overgrowth of the oil glands of the nose causing a bulbous nose called
rhinophyma. Many patients with Rosacea have lowered self esteem and
self confidence causing them to avoid social and public contact.

There are many new treatments for Roacea. The spider veins, broken
capillaries or blood vessels on the face can be erased with a yellow
light laser such as the Copper Bromide Laser, Pulsed Dye Laser or the
Intense Pulsed Light, IPL. Treatment of spider veins and treatment of
broken blood vessels is fast and done in our East Brunswick, Nj
office. Acne like pimples or bumps on the cheeks, chin and forehead
also respond well to this therapy alone or in combination with
photodynamic therapy. The later acne therapy involves painting the
face with a mild medication called aminolevulinic acid, ALA followed
by treatment with one of the above lasers or the BLU-U.
 

Rosacea Laser treatments can reduce or removes broken blood vessels and provide a more youthful appearance.

Rhinophyma is caused by overgrowth of the sebaceous or oil glands of
the nose. It results in an overgrown prominent, often disfigured nose.
This type of prominent nose is common in the New York and New Jersey
area. It is mistakenly felt to be secondary to heavy drinking as was
the case of the late comedian W. C. Fields. Fortunately, there are
several laser treatments that can return the nose to normal
proportions.
Early treatment with the pulse dye laser can shrink the nose to normal
size. This is performed in our office and causes no surface damage. It
requires no anesthetic and is the same procedure  described above that
removes visible blood vessels or telangiectasia that develop with
rosacea.
If the nose is treated at a later stage when it is large from
Rhinophyma, we use the  CO2 laser. This requires a local anesthetic
but is used as a bloodless scalpel to remove excess tissue and contour
the nose back to original shape. We recommend that the patients bring
old pictures to NJ on the day of their laser treatment so the doctor
can shape the nose back to original appearance.
